The walkthrough
Step by step.
Step 1 of 4
Selecting the Right Chart Type
Choose your data, click Insert > Charts. Column charts compare values, Line charts show trends over time, Pie charts show proportions, and Scatter plots show relationships.
- Use column/bar charts for comparisons
- Line charts are best for time-series data
Step 2 of 4
Customizing Chart Elements
Click your chart, then click the + button next to it. Add or remove elements like titles, legend, data labels, and gridlines. Use the paintbrush icon to change colors and styles.
- Keep chart designs simple and clean
- Use consistent colors across related charts
Step 3 of 4
Creating Dynamic Ranges with Tables
Convert your data to a Table (Ctrl+T). When you add new rows, charts based on the table automatically update. This eliminates manual range updates.
- Always use Tables for data that will grow
- Name your tables for easy reference
Step 4 of 4
Adding Trendlines and Forecasts
Right-click a data series, select "Add Trendline". Choose Linear, Exponential, or Moving Average. Check "Display Equation" and "Display R-squared" for detailed analysis.
